The Dual Protagonist System
GTA VI features two fully playable protagonists: Lucia and Jason. Unlike GTA V where switching between Michael, Trevor, and Franklin was mostly for variety, Lucia and Jason's switch has narrative weight — their relationship evolves depending on choices made during missions.
You can switch between them during free roam using the character wheel. Certain missions are locked to one character, while others allow mid-mission switches at key dramatic moments.
Combat and Weapons
The combat system has been rebuilt from the ground up with tactical shooter inspiration:

- Weapon customization with suppressors, scopes, extended mags

The New Wanted System
Six stars return, but the system is completely new. Key changes:
- Witness system: bystanders actively call 911

- Criminal history tracks across the game
- Corrupt police can be bribed or worked with
- Police use improved tactical AI including flanking and coordinated assaults
Exploring Leonida
The map is estimated at 120–150 km² at launch, featuring:
- Vice City urban core with enterable high-rises
- Everglades-inspired wetlands with airboats and wildlife
- Florida Keys-style island chain
- Rural inland areas and highways
- Massive port and industrial district
The map will expand post-launch through free updates — a confirmed first for the franchise.
Vehicles
Trailer analysis confirms cars, motorcycles, boats, airboats, jet skis, helicopters, and what appears to be small planes. Vehicle handling has been described in job listings as "the most realistic in franchise history while remaining fun."
Interiors
One of the most praised aspects of the trailers: accessible interiors. Apartments, clubs, restaurants, and businesses are all shown as playable spaces — a massive improvement over GTA V's mostly inaccessible buildings.
