Vice City Is Back β And Much Bigger
The original GTA Vice City (2002) featured a map of roughly 3 kmΒ² β impressive for its time but tiny by modern standards. GTA V's Los Santos and Blaine County covered approximately 75 kmΒ² of playable area. GTA VI's Leonida is shaping up to be significantly larger than both.
What the Trailers Reveal
Analyzing the two official trailers frame by frame reveals an enormous amount of geographic diversity:
- Vice City downtown β Art Deco skyscrapers, neon-lit strips, Ocean Drive-style beachfront
- Leonida wetlands β Everglades-inspired swamps with airboats, alligators, and rural settlements
- Keys-style archipelago β Small islands connected by long bridges visible in trailer 2
- Rural inland areas β Trailer 1 shows highways cutting through flat Florida-style countryside
- Port/industrial zone β Massive shipping containers and cranes visible near the waterfront
The Map Will Grow Over Time
Rockstar has confirmed that the GTA VI map will expand after launch through free updates. This is a departure from GTA V, where the map remained static. New areas, cities, and even entirely new regions may be added in the years following release β a strategy that would keep GTA VI Online fresh for a decade.
Vertical Scale
GTA VI's Vice City features high-rise buildings that players can enter and navigate vertically β a significant improvement over GTA V where most interiors were inaccessible. The trailers show interiors of apartments, clubs, and businesses, suggesting a much more detailed and explorable vertical dimension.
Size Estimate
Based on map analysis from leaks and trailer evidence, credible estimates put Leonida's total playable area at 120β150 kmΒ² at launch β roughly twice the size of GTA V's map. If post-launch expansions are included, this could grow to 200 kmΒ² or more over the game's lifespan.
These figures are estimates based on available evidence. Rockstar has not officially confirmed map dimensions.
