GTA 6 DualSense Limited Edition Controllers Announced for PS5

Rockstar and Sony have confirmed the release of two limited-edition Grand Theft Auto VI DualSense wireless controllers, revealed during PlayStation’s State of Play. Both controllers will launch on November 19, the same day GTA 6 releases on PlayStation 5, as confirmed by the PlayStation Blog and reiterated by Eurogamer, Insider Gaming, and IGN. The two models—one black, one white—draw inspiration from the distinctive atmosphere of Vice City, the game’s central location. According to the official PlayStation Blog, the white edition is designed to evoke Vice City’s early morning energy: white sands, pastel skies, and the city’s “laid-back glamour.” The black edition captures the city’s vibrant nightlife, referencing neon lights and deep city hues. Both designs feature a shimmering, color-shifting finish, combining sunset tones with neon glows for a look that shifts depending on the angle and lighting. Cheri Faulkner confirms that both controllers feature pastel pink icons on the buttons and a blue-purple shift that sparkles along the bottom of the controller. The rear of the controllers has the Grand Theft Auto logo embossed, and the grips maintain the standard PlayStation icon texture, with palm-tree-like shapes embossed on the grips. Eurogamer also highlights the palm tree leaf detailing and the Roman numerals for six on the touchpad in the GTA font. IGN adds that both controllers have a sleek, neon purple trim around the bottom half, further enhancing the Miami-inspired aesthetic.

Adding tactile flair, both controllers have custom palm tree details molded into the grips—a motif that has appeared throughout GTA 6 marketing. The touchpad is emblazoned with large VI Roman numerals, and the back features the Grand Theft Auto franchise logo. There are also pink highlights on the D-pad and face buttons, amplifying the Vice City palette. The purple pearlescent material in the center of the controller completes the Miami-inspired aesthetic, as highlighted by Video Games Chronicle. Pricing is set at $84.99 USD/ ¥12,480 (tax included)/ €84.99/ £74.99, matching other recent limited-edition DualSense releases, as confirmed by Eurogamer, Insider Gaming, and IGN. In Southeast Asia, pricing is set at SGD 115 / MYR 419 / IDR 1,549,000 / THB 2,890 / PHP 5,411 / VND 2,399,000, with both controllers available through participating retailers in limited quantities, as detailed on the PlayStation Blog. IGN confirms that the white controller is available at a variety of retailers in limited quantities, while the black version is exclusive to PlayStation Direct. Pre-orders begin September 10 at 10:00am local time via direct.playstation.com in regions where the service is available, including the US, UK, France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Spain, Italy, and Austria. Insider Gaming specifies pre-orders begin at 7:00am PT/10:00am ET in the US, and 10:00am local time in the listed European regions. In Portugal, pre-orders go through the PlayStation Store. The Black Limited Edition will be exclusive to PlayStation Direct in supported regions, while the White Limited Edition will also be available at select retailers globally. Sony notes quantities are limited and some regions may see different launch schedules or availability. IGN reports that GTA 6 will take advantage of the DualSense controller's speakers, haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and the console's Tempest 3D AudioTech, with PlayStation boasting that GTA 6 will "play best" on PS5 and feature unique, exclusive features on the console. Kotaku reports that while some players appreciate the bold VI branding, others are more drawn to the subtle colorwork and palm tree engravings. As with previous limited-edition DualSense controllers, demand is expected to be high, especially among collectors and fans seeking a Vice City-themed accessory for launch day.

However, the announcement of these controllers was met with a largely negative response online. According to Insider Gaming, the comments under Sony's announcement on social and video platforms were overwhelmingly critical, with many users making sarcastic remarks about PlayStation's move toward digital-only hardware and questioning whether the controllers would be physical products or just digital licenses. The negativity in the community notably outweighed the excitement among Grand Theft Auto fans, though the controllers are still expected to sell out quickly due to collector demand.

This latest hardware tie-in extends Sony’s push to capitalize on GTA 6’s cultural moment, offering fans a chance to match their hardware to the long-awaited game’s distinct Miami-inspired style. Eurogamer notes that the announcement followed a major GTA 6 gameplay reveal on Netflix, which was so popular it temporarily crashed both Netflix and Twitch due to high viewership. IGN additionally notes that while there is speculation about a possible GTA 6 PS5 console bundle, no such bundle has been confirmed by Sony or Rockstar at this time.
