Rockstar confirmed GTA 6 has no microtransactions or generative AI at launch. During a group conversation with Kinda Funny Games ahead of the GTA 6: Extended Look, Kinda Funny's Andy Cortez asked whether players would be able to spend real money on in-game purchases. Rockstar replied that there are “no monetisations in this game.” Greg Miller then followed up, asking point-blank whether generative AI had been used anywhere in the development of GTA 6. Rockstar told him there is “no AI” in the game, Eurogamer reports, with IGN and NME also sharing the news.

This stance against generative AI aligns with recent corporate shifts at Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two Interactive. Earlier this year, Take-Two reportedly laid off its AI team, including its head of AI. Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick has previously stated that AI is incapable of creativity of its own. This positioning sets Take-Two apart from other major publishers like Krafton, Square Enix, and EA, which have invested heavily in generative AI tools. While other studios have begun using AI at the expense of human translators and human-made in-game artwork, Rockstar and Take-Two have bucked the industry trend by keeping human developers at the center of production.

There is, however, a catch for players wanting the complete experience. Gated content will be restricted to GTA 6's Ultimate Edition, which is priced at £90—representing a £20 premium over the £70 standard edition. This higher-tier version bundles exclusive cosmetics, vehicles, and weapons. It also locks specific shops and services behind the higher price point, making them unavailable to standard edition owners. These exclusive locations include the Electric Fang tattoo parlour and the Stock 305 clothing store.

For players who buy the standard edition first, Rockstar's own support page confirms they will be able to buy the Ultimate Edition upgrade separately after redeeming their copy. This bonus content is not merely cosmetic; it is threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia's story and will unlock chapter by chapter as players progress through the narrative.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. This week's wave of information revealed a wealth of new details about the game, including a changed Wanted system, a changed carjacking system, a new romance system, a huge game world, and a list of in-game activities. Rockstar has also touted that the title will offer deeper interactivity than even Red Dead Redemption 2. Furthermore, Take-Two has issued a new official statement regarding the investigation into the GTA 6 leaks. Commenting on the scale of the game, Eurogamer's Chris Donlan observed that this level of detail is “what a billion dollars gets you.” Meanwhile, Eurogamer's Chris Tapsell pointed out that this push towards realism and away from easy-going fun is a huge risk for the series, even if it is ultimately the right direction for Rockstar to take.
